Our Story
The BRHS Chess Club was established in 2022 at Broad Run High School. What began as a small group of chess enthusiasts has grown into a vibrant community dedicated to fostering strategic thinking, sportsmanship, and friendship. Our mission is to make chess accessible to all students, regardless of experience, and to provide a supportive environment for growth and competition.
Over the years, we’ve celebrated milestones like winning 7 countywide tournaments, including the LightRidge Tournament last semester. Our weekly meetings, held every Wednesday at 4:18 PM in Room 117, are a cornerstone of our club, offering opportunities for practice, learning, and connection. We’re proud to be a part of the Broad Run community and look forward to continuing our legacy of excellence.
Our Team
Our club is led by a dedicated team of student officers and guided by our faculty sponsors, Ms. Freshta Nafey. The leadership team organizes tournaments, workshops, and social events, ensuring a welcoming space for all members. Our sponsors provide mentorship and support, helping us achieve success both on and off the board.

Our Impact
The BRHS Chess Club has made a lasting impact at Broad Run High School and beyond. By fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork, we’ve helped over 30 members this year develop skills that extend far beyond the chessboard. Our club has hosted over 10 workshops and tournaments, including securing a victory at the 2025 LightRidge Tournament.
Through community outreach, such as fundraising efforts and chess workshops, we’re spreading the love of chess and building connections in Ashburn, VA. Join us to be part of this dynamic community!
